Dear All,
Below please find the minutes from the eRHIC IR Design mtg that was held on 10/6/17.
Greetings,
Bill
eRHIC Design mtg. Date October 6, 2017.
-------------------------------------------------------------
* Discussion of the Agenda:
- Update on the Linear Optics
- Geometry definition update
- Beam pipe Design
- Added that Brett wanted to show a few of his slides for the next weeks EIC Accelerator Collaboration mtg.
* We started with a discussion of the Linear Optics Update
- Guillaume pointed out that we need to document, as completely as possible, what the IR geometry and magnet geometries are, including the optics parameters.
- Once this is done, need to fix/freeze it unless, after discussion in this IR design meeting, it is decided to change/update it.
- After a bit of discussion it was agreed that the baseline document for this information would be the table in Bob's presentation from the September 8th meeting. Again, this baseline is not to be changed without discussion and agreement in this meeting.
- Also points out that the baseline design is designed with "fully squeezed optics"
* Update on the Geometry transfer for simulations
- Alexander explained that the final goal of this geometry exercise is to get to a software design such that the IR geometry can be used both for simulation studies and background/radiation studies.
- This requires the ability to exchange various file formats.
- The implementation of the Console (??) format has been successfully completed. More formats to be implemented.
* Discussion about the Beam pipe design
- One of the goals for the central (aka detector) beampipe is to get to a complete enough conceptual design, with enough details (lengths, dimensions, end flange geometries, etc.) so that we can start discussions with the vacuum group.
- Near term approach will be to expand the beampipe sketch that Brett put on a slide a few months back after our initial discussion on this topic, and add all the dimensions and details that we discussed earlier.
- Bill will try to have this on a slide by the next meeting (10/22).
* Brett then showed a few of the slides that he planned to show at the EIC collaboration mtg the following week.
- A point from slide #5 was that the fast track quad design would not only be useful for eRHIC, but also for JLEIC.
- Slide 6 showed a figure for this Quad magnet.
- In response to a request from Bill for Brett to please post his slides so others could view them, Brett indicated that he did not want to post them until he'd iterated on them again. He estimated that by the following Monday he would have the final presentation posted on the EIC Collaboration Web site/agenda, and that people could view them then/there.
Agenda for next meeting (10/20) (Most had left by this point in the meeting)
- Update on the Linear Optics
- Update on the Geometry xfer effort
- Beam pipe update and discussion
- AOB
END OF MEETING.
