Bill, you did not attach the version of the IR optics we actually discussed during the meeting. The correct file is attached to this email.
What you used was the first version before I made some corrections in my reply to Christoph's email (see below). The correct version was attached to my reply to Christoph. – Brett
Thank you for your feedback Christoph. The initial plot was just a toy layout to show the configuration… as I had not checked the fields yet.
For the update (see attached) I gave B1 a 12 mrad angle and made it have 2.4 m magnetic length for a field just below 4.6 T (B2 has same field but 1.2 m length). With the updated layout I was also able to get beta_x at the crab cavities close to 1500 m. So this looks like an improvement. – Brett

Dear All, Below please find the minutes from the eRHIC IR Design mtg that was held on 10/20/17. I'd like to thank Elke for taking minutes for the period after I had to leave the meeting for another commitment. Greetings, Bill
Minutes for the eRHIC IR Design meeting ------------------------------------------------------ Meeting date October 20, 2017
* We started the meeting by going over the agenda. Brett had just put out a new presentation, and we started the meeting with it. * Brett's Presentation: - Brett's presentation presented an idea to use a combined function magnet for the magnet that resides closest to the detector on the incoming electron side. - A question came up: "Why would we want to consider a combined function magnet for this application?" - Answer: This would reduce the amount of material that we would have to put in this location. It would cancel the dipole field, and leave a bit of a focusing field for the electron beam.
* We then moved on to a discussion of the design of the beampipe through the detector, and out to the first magnet on either side of the detector. Bill had taken the "cartoon" figure for this pipe that Brett had put together after our discussion on this topic last May. Bill put this figure onto a slide, and added on all of the numbers/dimensions that had come up in these earlier discussions. For reference this figure is attached to these minutes. During this discussion Bill had to leave for another commitment, and Elke kindly continued with the minutes. - The beampipe needs to be NEG coated. How to clean and coat(?) the pipe may be an issue. - The coating has to be able to carry an electric current. - Will be necessary to re-activate the NEG coating ~ 3 times per year. - The near side needs another close look to see if there is enough space for the luminosity monitor. End of meeting.
I (Bill) don't know of any discussion about the agenda for the next meeting on November 3rd. A draft agenda is: - Discussion of the status on the linear optics - A status update on the geometry software effort - A discussion on the new idea Brett sent out to the E-mail list on October 30th. I've also attached the figure that Brett sent out with the idea to these minutes. - AOB
