Sorry I will not be able to make the meeting today. We are struggling to NSLS-II back online and I am assisting in the troubleshooting efforts. Here is a cross section of the NSLS2 rf cavity cryostat with ~30cm cold to warm

I was able to get detailed drawings for RHIC cold to warm transitions which are >50cm

as well as an example beam pipe used in STAR. Just to give you an idea here is the list of components and spaces occupied (from DX flange to DX flange)

Not sure if this would buy us anything but if they were mounted at the ends of the central beam pipe, we could bake and vacuum condition then install the pipe under vacuum into the detector. Something else to consider would be to install a mask at 12 sigma (?) on the electron exit side to protect components further downstream.

Not clear on the hadron forward side geometry. Sounds like the beam pipe would need to be a large cone from the IP forward. This would prevent sliding detectors out in that direction. Again sorry for the short notice.

Thanks,

Charles Hetzel
