Dear All,
Below please find the minutes from our eRHIC IR Design meeting that was held on Friday, 1/26/2018.
Greetings,
Bill
Minutes from the eRHIC IR Design meeting held on 1/26/18
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* We start with a review, and agreement of/on the Agenda:
- "Final" Presentation of Tables
- Update on Simulations
- Update from Charles on the Vacuum design
* We go through Bob's presentation "1801-update-v4.pdf"
- We walked through the slides to the last slide with the table of magnet and beam parameters for the Electron beam.
- Bob indicated that he'd checked all of the numbers in the table, and that they were final until Steve T. has had a chance to check them in his routines, and if/as necessary commented on any necessary changes.
- Hadron beam/magnet parameters are not in Bob's presentation.
- Guillaume indicates that the parameters for the Hadron setup are still in flux
- Confident that "There is a solution" for matching to the ring lattice
- Final Hadron parameter table is pending one more matching exercise by Guillaume. Estimate is 3 to 5 days to complete.
- Topic came up regarding need for more space for vacuum warm to cold transition and flanges. Agreed that the magnet placement will not be modified at this point/stage to make this extra space (~ 30 cm) available.
* Update on Simulations, by Alexander
- there have been a few iterations on vacuum system geometries with Charles
- Almost all configurations were able to be imported into the simulation framework
- Working on simplifying the configurations to get down to the "necessary" level of complexity so that the physics simulation results are valid/robust, but that simulation runs in finite amount pf time.
- Working to get a "realistic", complete system imported for simulations.
- Need final magnet parameter tables for the electron and Hadron beams for use in simulations.
* Action item: Bill will send an e-mail to Bob, Steve, Guillaume, and Alexander. Message is t please send the final tables to Alexander and Bill as soon as they are available.
* Vacuum Update by Charles
- Points out that there was already some discussion earlier today concerning need for more space along beamline for transition.
- current space between detector and first magnet is 50 cm, need ~80 cm.
- Decision to keep the current 50 cm space through the pCDR. Point out that this will be addressed after the pCDR.
- Charles will make a realistic, 80 cm, design. Charles and Alex will settle on a 50 cm design that will be used for the simulations, again, until after the pCDR.
- Charles asks whether he has the current correct magnet locations and geometry.
* Alexei introduces himself to the meeting.
- He will be working on impedance calculations, given/using Charles vacuum design.
- Requests that Charles any relevant vacuum geometry files that he has.
*AOB
- Charles asks about any new magnet configuration on the downstream side. Bob answers no plan for this now.
- Charles also mentions that he's got a reference for a very thin (~120 um) permanent heating element design that could perhaps be considered for the IP beam pipe bakeout. Paper "Design of beampipes for LHC experiments.pdf.
* Discussion and decision to hold next meeting in one week, on Friday Feb. 2nd.
- Draft agenda for next meeting:
- "Final" Tables
- Simulation update
- Vacuum update
End of meeting
