Dear All,
Below please find the minutes from our eRHIC IR Design meeting that was held on Friday, 3/16/2018. Please note that our next meeting will be on Friday March 30th, at 3 pm.
Greetings,
Bill
Minutes from the eRHIC IR Design meeting held on 3/16/18
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* We started with a review, and agreement of/on the Agenda:
- Plan for the IR Design presentation at the Director's Review
- "Final pCDR" Presentation of Tables
- Update on Simulations
- Update from Charles on the Vacuum design
- Update from Alexei on Impedance calculations
- AOB
* Discussion on the IR Design Presentation for the upcoming Director's review
- The Review dates are April 24 - 25
- Bob Palmer will be asked to give the presentation
- Rehearsals of the presentation will be held
* Brett introduced a student, named Kyle (I didn't note the last name), who will be working with Brett
- We welcomed Kyle to the IR Design effort, and went around the room to briefly introduce ourselves to him.
* Discussion on the Final pCDR Tables, Elke
- Final pCDR tables are in hand. Elke has sent them around.
- Brett comments that he will be using the data in the tables to try and put together a geometry layout for the IR.
- Everyone is encouraged to check the tables.
- It was discussed, and agreed that configuration control for these tables will be done by a combination of Kyle and Brett.
- Elke asks a clarifying question regarding how many magnets are rotated
- Answer is 2 magnets in the electron line and 1 magnet in the hadron line.
- Elke needs some B*rho for some of the magnets.
- Elke asks about the directions of the Quad magnets
- Will be discussed offline between Brett and Elke.
* Simulation Update, Elke
- Alexander is back
- All needed info. is collected
- Getting started again
- Ferdi asks whether anything from this effort is expected to be put into the pCDR
- Elke hopes to get a few figures to help/include in the report.
- Ferdi reminds the group hat the Hadron background has to get re-evaluated.
- Elke agrees. Indicates that this will come out from the simulations
- Brett brings up that he has been asked to assist in some of the LHC EIC IR design effort.
- Discussion that be asked to reciprocate for this effort with some synchrotron Software.
- Elke reminds us that Charles is using modern for the synchrotron fan studies and such.
* Vacuum Update:
- Elke points out that Charles has sent three new figures to Elke on the vacuum design, which are getting included into the pCDR text.
* Impedance Update, Alexei
- Points out hat first version/setup studied was for 330 bunches.
- Next version will be for 660 bunches.
- This will lead to more heat load from the impedance
- Ferdi asks whether modes were found
- Alexei answers yes.
- Working with Charles on the nternal vacuum chamber design/geometry.
* General Topics/AOB
- Brett asks a vacuum question. For the forward hadron side, there is a large trumpet. This will have an impact on the impedance back in HERA B. It will likely be worse (bigger impact) here. Effort to look into this should get started.
- Brett brings up the issue of tolerances.Points out that nothing in the write up (pCDR document) on the tolerances for the magnetic field gradient errors. We must remember hat at the appropriate time in the future these issues have to be addressed.
* Next meeting will be in two weeks, on Friday, March 30th.
Draft Agenda:
- Final pCDR Table comments
- Simulations Update
- Vacuum Update
- Impedance Update
- Presentation by Yun on his results concerning the dynamic aperture results with the IR (Detector?) Magnetic Field
End of meeting.
