Dear All,
Below please find the minutes from our eRHIC IR Design meeting that was held on Friday, 3/30/2018. Please note that our next meeting will be on Friday April 6th, at 3 pm.
Greetings,
Bill
Minutes from the eRHIC IR Design meeting held on 3/30/18
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* We started with a review, and agreement of/on the Agenda:
- Update on "Final pCDR" Tables
- Update on Simulations
- Update from Charles on the Vacuum design
- Update from Alexei on Impedance calculations
- Presentation by Yun on his results concerning the dynamic aperture results with the IR (Detector?) Magnetic Field
- AOB
* Update on the pCDR Tables, all
- Elke will send an e-mail to Kyle with a link and details on exactly which file(s) he should grab.
- Kyle, working with Brett, will be setting up and maintaining a system for performing Configuration Control on these IR Magnet parameter tables. There was a bit of discussion on the best software to use, and best location for the actual files to reside. After Kyle and Brett have setttled on a plan, perhaps with feedback from others, Kyle will send out an e-mail to the group explaining how one accesses these tables, as well as how one submits a request to modify them.
* Update on Simulation, Elke
- Alexander has looked at the information contained in the tables, and concluded that he has all the information he needs to get the IR Geant simulations setup and running again.
- Elke points out hat next week is "crunch time" to start making progress on this.
* Vacuum Update.
- Charles wasn't present, so we skipped this topic, and will address it in the meeting next week (4/6/18).
* Impedance Update, Alexei
- Alexei discussed that he's been investigating the level of expected tune shift due to the ring dipole magnet geometry.
- his first results indicate that it will be on the order of 0.08 to 0.13, for average beam currents up to 2.5 A.
- Alexei has had a bit of discussion on this result with Mike B. This back and forth is/will continue.
- Alexei will generate some text concerning these studies and results, and pass it to both Elke and Ferdi, for possible inclusion in the pCDR document.
- Bob aks if Alexei has looked into impedance effects for the current IR and vacuum design?
- Answer is yes. Alexei indicated that studies have started, and they point out issues, among them heating, in the present design. These issues will have to be dealt with. He is working on iterations of the vacuum design along with Charles to improve the situation.
* Presentation by Yun.
- Yun wasn't present at the meeting, so this topic was pushed off to the meeting next week (4/6/18).
* Brief update on te Presentation on the IR design effort and status for the upcoming Director's Review
- In discussions between our last meeting and this one, it was decided that Elke will give this presentation, rather than Bob.
- There will be rehearsals for the presentation prior to the review.
- As Elke will be going to Japan for the DIS Conference, and meetings clustered around it, on the 12th, it was decided that we should have our next meeting next Friday (4/6/18) so that Elke can go though a draft of what she has for this presentation.
* Next Meeting:
- It was agreed that our next meeting would be in one weeks time, on Friday April 6th, and start 3 pm (will shift to 3:20 pm)
- Please note that I neglected to bring up in this discussion that C-AD is having a Cookie/Cake & Coffee gathering at 3 pm on April 6th to celebrate recent accomplishments by C-AD staff, including the eRHIC pCDR effort. The posted meeting start time will therefore be moved to 3:20 pm, to give all members of this meeting group time to join in and get some sweets if desired. Please also note that members of this IR Design effort that aren't C-AD staff are also welcome and encouraged to attend this gathering.
Draft Agenda for 4/6/18 meeting:
- Draft Presentation by Elke
- Simulation Update
- Vacuum Update
- Presentation by Yun on his results concerning the dynamic aperture results with the IR (Detector?) Magnetic Field
- There was some discussion that this agenda may be a bit ambitious (too long).
