Dear All,
please find below less extensive minutes from our meeting as what you are used by Bill.
We had a presentation by Bob
discussing a new IR magnet configuration with the goal to reduce the cost of the IR magnets by making them easier to built.
The main idea is to reconfigure the IR in a way that one can use NbTi instead of Nb3SN.
The current reconfiguration increases the crossing angle to 25 mrad, it make the magnets longer to reduce the peak fields
and does not interleaf electron and hadron magnets.
The changes in the magnets are summarized together with changes to the beta function and so on on the attached presentation.
We discussed als the slides by Doug showing the first layout of the preCDR IR configuration into the RHIC tunnel.
There are no obvious conflicts seen right away.
One question to be answered does the extended IR match up with the existing ring magnets.
Have the magnets shown the cryo-vessels included.
It was also suggested that we should do a simple cross check all the positions from the MADX files are interpreted correctly.
At the end of the meeting Ferdi raised the point that we need with time to answer the question what impact it would have if the crab cavities would not work.
The estimate is that the loss in luminosity would be ~ 2.5 lower, the impact on the IR design would need to be studied in more detail.
Please feel free to add and correct o this minutes.
Our next meeting is one July 27th at 3:00pm
Cheers elke
