The far-forward (hadron-going) and far-backward (electron-going) sections of the IR, as well as a polarimeter for IP6 have been studied extensively using the IR design as detailed in the CDR. These studies have looked at detector placement around various machine components, and the associated detection acceptances for each component. To progress to the next level of maturity, more detailed machine elements (e.g. beampipe, cryostats) need to be included in the simulations (with input from the engineers) to assess the impact on current detector placement assumptions. Additionally, the 50 cm IR shift needs to be studied (in the short-term) so the impact can be assessed and communicated to the Change Control Board in a timely fashion.

In addition it will be important to understand the detector performance to get information on beam-gas and SR for the current set, but the highest priority have the integration question of all the detectors and especially the lumi detector.
