  Hello Jerome,

  back at a time when this petabyte was decided upon, there were 
legitimate concerns that the EIC community in its current state
does not need that much disk space. The answer to your question
depends on where we stand with the disk usage now. If it is low,
there is perhaps even option#4, namely use (part of) this disk
space, temporarily, for non-EIC purposes rather than let it idle.
It can of course be accessed through GPFS by BNL EIC folks at the
same time.
