Hello Jerome,

back at a time when this petabyte was decided upon, there were legitimate concerns that the EIC community in its current state
does not need that much disk space. The answer to your question
depends on where we stand with the disk usage now. If it is low,
there is perhaps even option#4, namely use (part of) this disk
space, temporarily, for non-EIC purposes rather than let it idle.
It can of course be accessed through GPFS by BNL EIC folks at the
same time.

The EIC storage purchased a while back is in house and being configured. The space was ~ 1 Pbytes usable and since the hardware will be fully configured likely by the EoW next week, a decision needs to be made on two possibilities (actually three)
- mount it as its own mount point usable by local folks
- put the space as reachable by BNLBox
- a combination of both (the space can be split between the two)

A note that /eic/u cannot be extended by this storage.
