Dear Colleagues

Sorry for late notification, I got sick and I'm recovering. Let me know if you have updates for tomorrow or would like to have a discussion. If so, I'm available at 0900h for the meeting.

I recently had a presentation during Calorimetry meeting about TDR planning, so you can have a look:

With the new simulation campaign data becoming available, we should start looking at the results on jet reconstruction.

David, how is the machine learning work going?

Alexandr also gave a very good presentation at the meeting:

I think this already tells us a lot of what we need. Looking at slide 6, the HCal only resolution is better than 10 cm, which is expected for 10 cm x 10 cm tiles. That is already good enough. We can probably still afford the tiles to be 20 cm x 20 cm. I would check the HCal only Rxy resolution vs. eta and phi. The plots on slide 9 tell me that the resolution in Rxy is ~25 cm with HCal+EMCal information. This is due to scattering effect and is also not bad. The problematic region is where there is overlap with the barrel, so in order to study the HCal resolution, we need to remove this material. I think the next steps would be:

1. Make the same plots as on slide 9, but for HCal only - this will tell us how the resolution changes vs. eta and phi (or x and y). The angular resolution is not so obvious to interpret compared to Rxy.

2. Do the same check with HCal only material present in the simulation - the extra material makes it impossible to check the resolution over eta>-1.8

3. Check 20 cm x 20 cm tiles - just a quick re-run to see how it impacts the resolution

4. It would be good to check the energy dependence eg. for 1 GeV and maybe 0.5 GeV neutrons. At lower energy the interactions may be different.

The above steps will finalize the study. In the meantime we also need to work on the optimization of clustering. We can discuss all during the meeting.

Best regards, Leszek
