Dear Colleagues
During the meeting today we mostly had introductions and discussions on the general status of the backward HCal as well as what needs to be done. I answered some of the questions, but please let me know if you have more. As I discussed the priorities are now to focus on simulations to finalize the design. We most likely need help with the following (or just join to reduce the work load):
1. Track-cluster matching - 1 person to help
2. Jet study with neutrals - 1 person to help Brian
3. Position resolution - 1 person to help Alexandr (may be shared with track-cluster matching)
4. Muon ID - 1 person
An idea emerged to maybe add instrumentation also behind the flux return material. This adds 10 cm of magnetic steel. I think it's worth considering, but I don't remember if there was any obstacle to it.
I'll prepare a presentation about current status of the detector design, so that we are all informed about the details. Since, we need help with simulations, I recommend UIUC group to familiarize with the ePIC software.
Best regards, Leszek

Dear ColleaguesWe are going to have a DSC meeting on Friday at 1000h. Here's the meeting link:This time a group from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign will be joining our effort, so at the beginning we will have a chance to make an introduction.Following up on our previous meeting we can finalize the work plan and discuss how to distribute the tasks below.1. Make sure track-cluster matching works.2. Do a realistic jet study with neutrals and track-cluster matching, subtracting charged track energy from clusters. Use full DIS events from simulation campaign.3. Do a 2-track resolution study. Here we have 2 options:a) Use realistic DIS events from simulation campaign. Select neutron clusters and check the distance from other track projections or clusters. Study eta/radial dependence, phi-integrated.b) Do a 2 track simulation and reconstruction. Check the distance of clusters vs. eta/radius and the 2 particle separation.4. Study muon ID efficiency and purity in DIS events with vector mesons produced. Look for MIP tracks with MIP energy deposits in EMcal and HCal. (No manpower here!)5. The above steps should determine the optimal tile size. The tile performance will be tested at OSU with cosmic rays (this is ongoing). Compare it to optical photon transport simulation. This will determine the technology choice. These are the most important tasks on our way towards TDR preparation. Let me know if you are interested in contributing to any of the above.Best regards, Leszek
