Hello Oleg

Good point, I also realized that the absorber layers are welded into the case. This means we have to prepare a dedicated module.

I forgot to mention, but I forwarded the original email from Oskar for your information. I don't think they provide more details for their case. In my opinion we just need to provide a general plan on what beams we need and expected time. To clarify, we are probably going to test 2 configurations with 10 cm x 10 cm tiles and 5 cm x 5 cm or pick one based on cost estimates (I do remember to do those estimates).

For others it may be useful to take a look at these presentations:

Hello Leszek,

I just have one quick comment. That is, you can't reuse any existing LFHCal module. The modules have absorber layers welded into the case.

The request for Monday seems a bit rushed. Any real plan should include more information and results from the simulation about the tile sizes and absorber layers.

Best regards,
Oleg

Dear Colleagues

We need responses today to be ready for the TIC meeting presentation on Monday. There is also one more test needed to validate simulations with the use of EMcal PbWO4 crystal/module:

EEEMcal PbWO4 crystal/module
0.3-20 GeV protons
Needed to validate simulations for PbWO4

Best regards, Leszek

Dear Colleagues

We need to discuss plans for the beam tests and this is quite urgent. We are going to use a similar type of 20 cm x 10 cm x 45-x cm module as LFHCAL, so again it makes sense to coordinate with them. Please respond quickly if you have any suggestions.

In order to make those beam tests happen, we can probably reuse one of the existing LFHCAL modules and put our tile+absorber configuration. I see they are going to perform a lot of tests at CERN PS/SPS.

At some point it may be good to perform a combined HCal+EMCal test.

This was my initial idea to cover any possible type of particle/need:
  1. Protons 0.3-20 GeV
  • Needed to test hadronic interactions at high energy and response at low energy, which is different than neutrons
  • 2025-2026 prototype tests
  • 2026-2027 first article tests
Pions 0.3-20 GeV
  • Needed to study e/h response
  • 2025-2026 prototype tests
  • 2026-2027 first article tests
Electrons 0.3-20 GeV
  • Needed to study e/h response
  • 2025-2026 prototype tests
  • 2026-2027 first article tests
Neutrons 0.1-1 GeV ?
  • Unmoderated from spallation source
  • Needed to validate the low energy neutron detection performance – main goal
  • 2025-2026 prototype tests
  • 2026-2027 first article tests
Best regards, Leszek
