Dear Elke and Colleagues

I reverted the change for now back to StainlessSteel:

https://github.com/eic/epic/tree/negative-HCal-dev

Just to clarify to the DSC. We are going to use non-magnetic steel as the absorber in reality, however in simulation we have to match the parameters of that material to correctly simulate the showers. I initially assumed it to be the same as StainlessSteel:

https://github.com/eic/epic/blob/a6044997586cf5335a4ce4d1bf13aead4c14d791/compact/materials.xml#L414C19-L414C33

Best regards, Leszek

Dear Elke

Yes, I keep that in mind, but I also remember that StainlessSteel was not correct either. Do you recommend to revert back to StainlessSteel or use other type in the material definitions?

There is a difference in density between the types of steel, which is probably the biggest factor affecting the interaction length here. The point is we just have to pick up the correct parameters.

Dear Leszek, All,

I want to remind you the steal of the backward HCal cannot be magnetic steal it needs to be stainless steal, so the fringe fields are correctly mitigated and the forces on the magnet are well blanced, so the change below is in correct as the lfHCal steel is magnetic.

Thanks Elke

Dear Colleagues

I prepared the configurations to test and optimize in this branch:

Updates include switching from StainlessSteel -> Steel235 (same as LFHCAL). More description is here (added to links collection document)

We can in principle test more if you have other ideas. The list is already long, but we can pick the most important ones. Feel free to let me know.

Best regards, Leszek
