Dear Colleagues:

—> If you have not registered with GitHub and sent your username to Gunther Roland, please do so immediately.

In this message I would like to establish a plan for proceeding, and also obtain your feedback on a proposed outline. Based on the previous phone conference, my understanding is that we are to produce a document on the order of 20 pages (I believe it will be somewhat longer) on Hot QCD. Similar efforts are underway for Cold QCD and for RHIC Spin, all to be incorporated by some process above my pay grade along with our joint recommendation for EIC.

I would therefore like your immediate feedback (reply to the list, or to me privately if you really think that is necessary) on the below outline. Note that in Section II.B  I have deliberately not broken the topics into separate theory and experimental discussions; I believe it will be much easier for non-experts to follow the discussion of those discussions are integrated for each observable.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————
  I. Executive Summary

II. Progress Since Previous Long-Range Plan, Current Status
     A. Facilities Status (RHIC II + LHC)
     B. Experimental and Theoretical Status
          1.  Hydrodynamic Flow
          2.  Jets
          3.  Saturation
          4.  Quarkonia
          5.  Dileptons
          6.  Energy Scan
          7.  Exotica (CME, CVE)

III. Future Prospects

     A. Facilities (RHIC and LHC timelines, experimental upgrades)
     B. QCD Critical Point
     C. Hard probes
     D. Theory Initiatives (towards quantitative understanding)

 IV. Summary
——————————————————————————————————————————————————————

The plan for proceeding would then be:

1) Comments on outline due to Bill by 0800 Monday, October 27.
—> Please indicate which section(s) you would be willing to assume as your primary responsibility.

2) Bill will upload new LaTeX skeleton based on #1 by C.O.B. on Tuesday, October 28 AND assign working groups.

3) First drafts of the relevant sections due on December 1.

4) First round of edits, coordination, etc. to be completed by December 15.

5) Adjust as necessary from there…

This is an ambitious but achievable schedule. Please plan accordingly.

For your reference, I include below my signature the members of the writing group. Please check this to make sure I have not made any errors or omissions.

With thanks in advance,

Bill
