If we don’t have someone on this mailing list volunteering to do this, I can see if one of my students can help.

My github expertise consists of hitting the “commit” and “sync” buttons on the Mac github app. Normally, none of us should need to try anything more advanced.

Dear Jiangyong:

I agree on what the correct commit should be, i.e., “bad9fddb64a1f60a13a6225f720ce4e563ad9417”.

What is puzzling to me is that when I look at your attempt to revert to it (your second to last update, which is labeled “This rolls back to commit bad9fdd” I see github removing all the text(*) in Flow.tex, i.e., it reverts to the skeleton file we started with 2 months ago, NOT the slightly modified Flow.tex I uploaded in the bad9fdd update (which github correctly displays if you look at the change log).

I do not understand this behavior, and am very wary about poking at blindly. I hope we have a github expert among us who can provide some insight.

BTW, I am using the GitHub client for the Mac to manage my uploads and synching, and it seems to work very well.

—> General comment to all: Please check that your changes “compile” under LaTeX before committing to the repository. Also, if your local  LaTeX client has an option like “Trash .aux files” in the console window, please do so before committing. Not doing so creates confusing github change logs on the (.aux, .log, .blg, .out, …) files.

Best regards,

Bill

(*) as a clue, the text that is incorrectly being removed from Flow. tex is not even the current text that I uploaded as the bad9fdd commit last night; it’s an old outline written by the Flow.tex authors.

Dear Bill and others,

Sorry for messing this up (easy to make the mistake through the Github graphic interface:-( )

The correct commit is "bad9fddb64a1f60a13a6225f720ce4e563ad9417" by bill last night with comment " Fix missing math-mode in Flow.tex"
I checked I can revert my local copy to that version. But would like expert to take a look and fix the main repository.

cheers,
Jiangyong

Hello all:

There is a problem with the current snapshot in the repository. Please continue to work with your local copy, but DO NOT synch with the github repository - if you do you will get a version of the white paper that is 2-3 weeks old.

Repairing this is likely to exceed my meager github skills. Suggestions welcomed. I do have a snapshot locally of the complete HotQCDWhitePaper directory that is current as of last night, and I could upload this entire directory, but I would prefer to use github to roll back the latest changes rather than attempt a brute force fix. If you know how to do this, please advise.

More as I know more...

Best regards,

Bill
