Yes for years STAR was very proud of the fact that they hard the largest XRootD installation (because they used it across worker nodes to use JBOD disk as common storage)

So far sdcc has operated on the basis to provide services which were requested by the experiments it serves. As far as I recall xrootd was introduced because STAR wanted it while PHENIX went with dCache. I cannot recall this from sdcc (and yes - PanDA for sPHENIX would not have happened if sdcc had had a word in this). I  wonder if there is precedence from other facilities for something like this.

Was the access brought up at the recent EIC computing review? If there is some comment from the committee supporting xrootd this would be helpful
