On behalf of Hong Ma
To All Physics Department Staff:
June 26 has been designated as the DOE’s inaugural safety “Day of Reflection”. It is intended to create an emotional connection to safety and raise awareness of the impact that workplace safety incidents can have on families, friend, colleagues and our DOE Mission.

A few events are planned:
At 10am, the Lab will host a special meeting in the Physics Large Seminar Room with a video featuring BNLers reflecting on events that have shaped their views on safety and sharing stories about being proactive to protect coworkers. Then, Mike Clancy, Deputy Chief Operating Officer for the Collider-Accelerator Department, will present on “Safety Management from the Operations Side.” Following his presentation, refreshments will be served in the lounge.
For RHIC experiments in operation, we will reflect on safety at the daily meetings, at 10am in B1006 Conference Room for STAR run coordination meeting, and at 3:30pm in B1008 Conference Room for sPHENIX Shift Change Meeting. Omega Group will have a meeting on Day of Reflection in Room 1-105 at 1pm.
At 2-2:30pm there will be a Physics Department Safety Reflection meeting in the Small Seminar Room and on Zoom. We will refresh the safe conduct of research principles, discuss the recent safety related events in the department. Please come to share your thoughts on safety at the meeting.
Please make an effort to joint one of these events. We hope everyone in the department will take the opportunity to reflect on how we can work safely.
Hong.
