Dear HSF colleagues,

The GSoC program for this year was announced in January, and we issued a call for mentors from within HSF a few weeks ago.

We remind you to add your project by February 11th if at all possible (instructions are reproduced below). That helps us submit a compelling application from HSF in order to participate in GSoC. Even if you are not able to submit a full project description, it helps us if a PR has been started so we have a better view of which projects to expect.

Please note that our organization first needs to apply to take part in the program. Although we don't foresee any problems here, it helps to have the projects idea page populated, so please do your best to add your project by Feb 11th. Note that Google emphasizes they want projects related to AI/ML and security. That should not stop you from submitting projects unrelated to these topics, but if you do have one in mind it will certainly be helpful in the org applications and may get preference in the project ranking.

Note also that it is entirely within the GSoC rules to encourage students to apply to your project or do your own outreach - the only thing not permitted is mentors and students to have the same affiliation (from the same university, for example). But you do not need to rely only on interested candidates contacting you.

As a final comment, the late announcement shows that the future of this program is all but certain, so do take advantage of it this year!
