Dear members of the HEP Software Foundation Steering Group,

I am contacting you today on behalf of the Editorial Board of the European Physical Journal C (EPJC), a fully sponsored diamond OA HEP journal (SCOAP3) co-published by the EPJ publishers (epj.org).

Following some extensive discussion with our editors and members of the scientific community, I would like to provide a brief and contemporary overview of the profile, interests and services provided by the journal. To this aim, together with the Editors-in-Chief,  we have drafted a first Editorial, entitled “An overview of some article types in EPJC and introducing the new section on “Computing, Software and Data Science” - published recently as https://link.springer.com/article/10.1140/epjc/s10052-025-13870-2 with the PDF attached for completeness  - and which we would like to share with you hoping you will find it both interesting and useful.

In this way, EPJC also integrates the communities served so far by the related journal “Computing and Software for Big Science (CSBS)” , which will be relaunched with a significantly broader scope in due course. The new EPJC section will accordingly encompass the following topics (https://link.springer.com/journal/10052/aims-and-scope ):

Computing, Software and Data Science
Machine learning and data science techniques
Statistical methods for data analysis and interpretation
Software for theoretical calculations and physics event generation
Detector simulation and modelling of detector response
Online/offline data reconstruction and filtering
Software integration and benchmarking
Frameworks and heterogenous computing
Computing middleware developments
High-throughput and  high-performance computing
Applications of quantum computing

At the same time we would like to offer you and your colleagues the opportunity to discuss any aspects you wish to see clarified by the journal – be it in terms of scope, editorial policies or other – so as to foster your professional interest in EPJC.

With my best wishes

Christian Caron
