Hi all,
The call for applications to the 2026 Ozaki Exchange Program is now open. Please share this with your colleagues and collaborations, especially those on the US-Japan program, about this opportunity for both US and Japan students. I included a short paragraph for the program below. Feel free to distribute.
Best,
Hong.
Ozaki Exchange Program, funded jointly by the U.S. and Japan, was established in 2018 to strengthen U.S.- Japan scientific collaboration and to facilitate greater cooperation in the areas of accelerator and particle physics by supporting the exchange of graduate students between Japan and the United States. All graduate students enrolled, or undergraduate students already accepted for enrollment, in accredited Japanese or U.S. physics Ph.D. programs are eligible to apply. The Japanese students are hosted in the DOE national labs, and the U.S. students are hosted at KEK institutions, including J-PARC, or HEP labs at specific universities in Japan. The 2026 program is open for application from Oct 24 to Dec 19, 2025.

Dear Hong,
Thank you for your message and for coordinating the Ozaki Exchange Program.
C-AD would be pleased to host summer students under the program. Below is a list of possible topics we can offer:
- Advanced Ion Source Development for High-Current Beams
Students will participate in R&D on laser ion sources (LIS) , electron beam ion source (EBIS) and polarized ion sources (OPPIS) used for RHIC and future EIC applications, including plasma diagnostics and beam extraction optimization. - Compact Accelerator for Neutron Generation
Experimental and simulation studies of compact proton and lithium accelerators for neutron production, including beam transport and target interactions for BNCT and isotope applications. - Spin-Polarized Beam Acceleration and Diagnostics
Involvement in experiments and simulations related to spin dynamics, beam polarization measurement, and optimization in low-energy injector systems. - General Accelerator Technology and Beam Instrumentation R&D
Participation in development of beam diagnostics, high-voltage systems, and RF structures supporting ongoing upgrades of the BNL injector complex.
These topics are well suited for short-term (up to 10 weeks) participation, with appropriate mentoring and hands-on experimental or simulation components.
Best regards,
Masahiro Okamura

Hi all,
As you may know, BNL hosts the DOE HEP Ozaki Exchange program
I need your help for one change to the program this coming year.
The program has been running for a few years now. For the 2025 program, there are 5 awards for US students to go to Japan, and 3 awards for Japanese students to visit US lab. We expect to have a call for applications for the 2026 program in Nov this year.
One of the roles for US labs in the program is to host Japanese students. One Japanese student in the 2025 program just completed the program in C-AD. Alessandro Tricoli hosted a student in 2024 in Physics Dept.
For the 2026 program, KEK plans to categorize applications according to two types:
- Summer Student type - students join an existing program, for up to 10 weeks
 - Original Research type - applicants carry out their own research plan, for up to 9 months

For Type 2, the applicants will reach out to the researchers in the US labs to develop proposals.
To participate in Type 1, a list of topics for potential summer students to work on should be provided by the US labs. The applicants for the summer program will select the topics when they apply.
SLAC and FNAL had provided lists of topics in their labs for the program in the past. See the list at the bottom of the email.
For BNL to participate in the summer student program, we need to provide a list of topics. Please let me know with what topics your program can host summer students from Ozaki Exchange Program. A brief description is sufficient.
Best,
Hong.
