Hello ChatGPT Enterprise licensed users,

 

We have some good news to share about ChatGPT access at the Lab. All existing ChatGPT Enterprise licenses (both those purchased in the pilot in December 2024, and by the departments in July 2025) have been renewed through September 30, 2026.

 

The Lab is taking advantage of OpenAI’s new $1-per-agency offer for the U.S. federal government. This allows us to significantly increase the number of ChatGPT licenses available, giving more Lab staff the opportunity to explore, experiment, and work with the AI chat system.

 

ITD will be opening new sign-ups for ChatGPT Enterprise licenses in the next few weeks.

 

What stays the same:

• Access to GPT-5.2 and newer models (as they are released) will remain available just as it is today
• Existing “Thinking” and “Professional” level access will continue unchanged for the next 60 days – basically until the end of February 2026

 

What changes after that:

• Over the next two months, we’ll be working with OpenAI to better understand the Lab’s usage patterns and needs
• After this period, departments will have the option to purchase credits to enable continued access to higher-level features, such as “Thinking” and “Professional” functionality

 

Important clarification:

• This update applies only to ChatGPT (interactive chat) access
• Programmatic or API-based access is not affected by this change and will be handled separately assuming those offerings become available to the Lab

 

The goal here is simple: broaden access now, learn how the tools are being used, and put a sustainable model in place that supports deeper, more advanced use where it adds real value.
