Dear all,

In this week’s ePIC Software & Computing meeting, we will build on the workshop discussion of heterogeneous computing and explore its applications to detector simulations. We will hear an update from Severin Diederichs (CERN) on the AdePT plugin for Geant4, which is designed to accelerate simulations by offloading electromagnetic transport to GPUs. This will be followed by a presentation from Makoto Asai (JLab) on sub-event-level parallelism in Geant4, which enables relevant tracks to be processed on GPUs while other tracks continue to be processed on CPUs, with the results then merged back into individual events. Building on this, Gábor Galgóczi (BNL) will present Simphony (EIC-Opticks), the GPU-accelerated optical photon transport framework, which is being validated against Cherenkov detectors in ePIC:
