To all Level 2 Managers,

 

Level 2 Managers are invited to submit nominations for their organization for the annual Lab-wide Employee Awards, which will be conferred in early fall. The awards are:

 

Pinnacle Award	Brief Description
Brookhaven Award	Recognizes key contributors in support areas whose performance and achievements represent outstanding service to the Laboratory. Employees in all support areas with a history of contributions should be considered, however, in some years Laboratory priorities may suggest consideration for those with outstanding achievements in specific areas (e.g. safety, diversity, mentorship etc.).
Engineering Award	Recognizes distinguished contributions to the engineering objectives of the Laboratory over a period of one or more years. Contributions may be in any engineering or computing discipline and includes project management.
Science & Technology Award	Recognizes distinguished contributions to the Laboratory's science and technology mission over a period of one or more years. Contributions may be in any scientific or technical discipline other than engineering.  Include the nominee’s CV and publication list.

 

 

We ask that you:

 

1. Advocate, coordinate and approve the nominations coming from your organization.
2. Provide the nominees’ names under consideration to us now so we can assist you with the process and form the committees.
3. Initiate requests for letters of support as soon as possible to allow for sufficient response time.
4. Prior to submission, secure Level 1 approval of your nomination package.

 

The amount for each of these awards is $10,000 and up to five awards are available in each category. Nominators will need to provide at least three, but no more than five letters, memos, or emails of support from outside the nominee’s organization. The letters of support must be current and specifically for the award for which the person is being nominated. Be sure to clarify the nominee's role in accomplishments to which others may have contributed and emphasize and validate what is extraordinary about their accomplishments.

 

While these are principally individual-based awards, there may be unique occasions where an  outstanding achievement is truly accomplished by a team versus one individual. Nomination of a team under this program is allowed, but the $10,000 cash award must be divided amongst the team recipients.

Previous and Future Recognition:  Nominations for any of the Employee Awards may not be based solely on an accomplishment for which the employee previously received a Laboratory or Directorate Bonus. Also note that any future Laboratory or Directorate Bonus recommendations for the employee must be based on accomplishments separate and distinct from the accomplishments recognized under one of the Employee Awards categories.
