Hi,
No requirements have yet to be written up for a SAM replacement. DUNE
should provide input. This is something we could certainly contribute
to. I'll try to write something down and at least this group could give
it a sanity check.
I have a bit more info on replacing SAM. There are three high level
functions SAM provides which will need replacement:
1. file replica catalog
2. metadata catalog
3. workflow management
I guess Rucio is a clear answer to #1. I'm told Rucio has some built in
support for #2 but that it's not sufficient. #3 is not in use by DUNE
but a replacement would have to fit into existing users of "SAM
Station".
The strategy desired by the people currently looking at this replacement
now at FNAL is that the replacement should be made up of loosely coupled
modules at least at this high level. So, one solution for say #3
doesn't mean it has to be adopted by all users.
The picture is still rather cloudy but maybe this sparks some ideas of
what/where BNL might stick our noses?
-Brett.
