Colleagues,

This is a broad mailing to those of you who attended the scoping Workshop and those who have expressed interest in following the progress of the initiative.

Attached is the Management Synthesis of the Results of the Scoping Workshop held in December.  It forms the Executive Summary of the status of the Scoping. In addition to the management  report, we have created a google doc that includes a background synthesis of all comments from the workshop proceedings followed by the raw notes from the working groups and some additional notes that Anita de Waard took during the proceedings for those who want to dig deep and deeper.  Access to all of this back up is at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1clS1x5RXhPDGhXJd4lys08cREyfob0-JGhyeMSDtyDI/edit.

If you know of other people who may be interested in the RDaF development, please let Bob and me know. 

Although this is the first written summary of the status of thinking about the RDaF a lot of people have been talking about it and there seems to be pent up energy for this to move forward.  Both Bob and I have at separate events talked to Kelvin Droegermeier, the President's Science Advisor, about it and he has asked for a meeting to learn more.  Bob spoke to people at the  Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) and the  Association of American Universities (AAU) and received a lot of interest.  Bob's next step is to have internal NIST management discussions.  Bob will also be presenting the status of the initiative at the upcoming American Chemical Society meeting.  We'll continue to receive comments and integrate them into a final scoping document.  

Please let us know any thoughts you have about the scoping document or the path forward.  Again, we appreciate your continued involvement and look forward to the next steps.
