Subject: Pre-Seed Business Workshop for Researchers - The Office of Technology Transfer
Dear Division Heads and Department Chairs:
Recently the Office of Technology Transfer was awarded a grant from the Office of Technology Transitions at the Department of Energy to establish a basic entrepreneurship training program for BNL researchers.
The Office of Technology Transfer in collaboration with Neworks, LLC, an Upstate NY consulting firm that has been conducting Pre-Seed business workshop for researchers, has developed an online curriculum. Neworks, LLC, will deliver the online training on July 27, 28, 31 and August 3. A Monday Memo describing the program can be found here: https://intranet.bnl.gov/memo/news.php?a=217329, while details of the upcoming BNL workshop can be found at: https://www.bnl.gov/techtransfer/tcp-workshop.php
Following the workshop, participants have an option to work in teams to develop a pitch deck for either their idea or another participant’s idea. BNL will be hosting a local pitch competition to select one researcher to participate in the DOE pitch competition hosted by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
Though the attendance in the four online sessions is mandatory, the participation in the follow-on activities is optional.
All the participants will receive assistance with the application process for the next U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Technology Transitions’ Energy I-Corps training, an intensive DOE funded two-month entrepreneurship program and with their DOE Technology Commercialization Fund (TCF) proposal. TCF is a DOE funded program designed to promote promising energy technologies from the National Labs and expand the commercial impact of DOE’s portfolio of research, development, demonstration, and deployment activities. TCF was created by the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
In your role as Chair or Division Lead, please identify staff in your organization who are interested in entrepreneurship and/industry engagement and encourage them to participate in the online workshop and in the follow-on program on pitch development.
Please refer them to Poorni Upadhya (pupadhya AT bnl.gov, 631-344-4711).
Your support and help is greatly appreciated!
Thank you.
Bob
