Excellent points, and if people find good training prospects I can use my small discretionary NPPS budget ($10k) for it, I'm certainly not using it for travel

Actually if the lab is serious about this then they should be willing to invest in training ?

I’ve no objection to an MM channel, I would appreciate a curated list of papers/information on a webpage/confluence/whatever that’s designed to level us up, e.g.

Level 0: Basics on underlying theory
Level 1: Common techniques used today / tools and tutorials
Level 2: Traps and pitfalls / best practices

If we really want to level people up then we need to think of how to give people hands-on exposure to the tools with projects that go beyond copy and paste tutorials.  We could have an AI/ML challenge, I’d suggest not making it a competition as such but everyone is encouraged to submit their answers which are reviewed by CSI colleagues and feedback is given.  Back to school…

Friday thoughts, of course I have no time for this :)

Any opinions on whether it would be useful to add a NPPS mattermost channel on AI/ML, sharing materials that help us collectively 'level up' to use the Brett term I like? With a tag line something like

Run across something interesting in AI/ML, at any level from neophyte to experienced? Tutorials and anything pedagogical, articles, papers, NPP applications, tools, workflows, leveraging GPUs, etc etc? Tell us about it here and help us all level up!

and a title (suggest a better one) 'Leveling up on AI/ML' to convey its purpose.

Also I have proposed to Hong an AI/ML coordination list phys-ml-coord-l AT lists.bnl.gov with membership I have suggested: NPPS leadership team, Michael Begel, Anze, Elke, and likely a few more. Will discuss it with him today. Not proposing a general discussion list on the topic, can use phys-soft-comp for that (and the MM channel for a lower bar on sharing things).
