So no eagerness for a leadership team meeting tomorrow. I propose we have our next one at 10am on Fri 16th (since our AI/ML tech meeting starts at 11).

Here FYI is an exchange from today with Jamie (he followed up to say it's just a draft plan he needs this month)...

Hi Jamie,
Sure. This is the state of it at our last discussion in the NPPS leadership team.  The next discussion will take place once sPHENIX has the review report in hand and has had time to absorb it, hopefully a week from tomorrow. In the meantime, Paul has been planning with Ruslan, and I've raised the plan with Dmitri Smirnov. A plan with milestones and FTEs in April should be doable.

  • Database support: Plan discussed to leverage Belle II DB. We need to write it down and formalize it

  • Phase 1 starting ~now: Ruslan, Paul et al work to generalize the Belle II DB to be experiment-agnostic

  • Phase 2 starting when Phase 1 is sufficiently progressed (which is not  yet): add a person on the sPHENIX side to apply the experiment-agnostic DB to sPHENIX

  • APIs are not going to change much if at all, can be very soon, discuss soon

  • create a first sPHENIX prototype early

Phase 3 happening later: possibly re-engineer the experiment-agnostic DB to modernize its technology, on a longer timescale than delivering V1 for sPHENIX.

I talked to Jamie about this plan

  • he initially advocated handing the sPHENIX conddb job to Dmitry, I told him about our plan and he concurs

  • he is prepared to support fractions of HEP people like Ruslan temporarily as required, we need to tell him and then we can talk to David Jaffe

  • who for the sPHENIX side?

  • Dmitri is a possibility, as Chris has suggested. [Torre agrees and has mentioned it to Dmitri.]

  • Maxim is interested, but whether he’s amenable to participating in doing it this way is not clear.

Hi Torre,
Just got off an sPHENIX spokespersons' discussion meeting.
We got an action item: Dmitri wants us to put together a plan,
with milestones and FTE resources, for how we will address
sPHENIX's priority needs for software, by the end of April,
for discussion with sPHENIX prior to next month's meeting
in the first week of May.   I'd like to start
with the highest priority, the conditions database.
Can you draft such a plan, so we can discuss?  Thanks,
  Jamie

Well for Chris’s benefit, I discussed today prioritising Ruslan’s time so that we can make a start on the actual CDB code together.  The FOA hire is in the works but otherwise there isn’t much to discuss and nothing to call a meeting for.

Hi,
I'd pencilled in a discussion of sPHENIX review outcomes as the main topic for the general NPPS group meeting tomorrow, but the report is not out yet (not even a draft private to sPHENIX so they can correct any factual errors, Chris tells me), so even if it emerges today a discussion tomorrow would be premature. We could cancel the group meeting and have only a leadership team meeting (the 1hr slot is boxed in by CHEP and colloquium so it's one or the other), but without continuing the sPHENIX discussion I have little for that meeting either. So we could follow the Omega approach and just cancel, recommending people join the symposium. Views welcome.
