Hi Eric and Torre,

In the topics for walkups, there are two topics relevant to SW and C:

1.   AI/ML: Research to tackle the challenges of managing increasingly high volumes and complexity of HEP experimental and simulated data, and to address cross-cutting challenges across the HEP program in coordination with DOE investments in exascale computing and associated efforts.

2.   Integrated Computational and Data Infrastructure for Scientific Discovery: HEP will support development of data storage capabilities to handle tens of exabytes of data from future experiments; crosscutting efforts in edge computing to seek solutions for real-time and extremely high data rate environments; and investments in software development to improve the interface with SC infrastructure and middleware.

We should have good responses to show our interests and plan. I don’t know exactly how they will be funded. Most likely it will still go through some proposal process.

                Hong.

Dear GLs and PMs,

Here is the guidance for this year’s budget briefing. We need to prepare the materials in the next weeks.  Your inputs will be needed soon, especially on topics that may need some clarifications.

Dmitri is making a plan for coordinating the budget briefing.

With the April Fin Plan, the FY21 budget is finalized.  In addition to the flat-flat budget for FY22-23, one notable difference from previous briefing is that  “Walkups” are limited to a few specified topics aligned with SC priorities.

                Hong.

Dear All,

Please find two attachments to assist you in preparing for the FY 2023 Lab Budget Briefings.

1) FY 2023 HEP Lab Budget Briefing Guidance (May 2021)

2) FY 2023 Lab Proposal_[Insert Your Lab]: Excel spreadsheet. Using same format as last year. Instructions are embedded in each tab.

Please work with John Kogut or John Boger on scheduling a virtual meeting (see guidance document).

If you have questions about budget briefing deliverables, please direct your questions to Erin Cruz, and be sure to c.c Alan Stone and Michelle Bandy.
