... and in more good news, as noted by Haiyan in today's NPP update, the energy frontier research review, first in 7 years, went very well last week. All labs doing EF work were subjected to it, in one week. An important element for us in NPPS was a strong AI/ML emphasis, and activities like large scale ML services (including ML-derived services like active learning) development and application in analysis in collaboration with Omega helped us make a strong showing there. I hope an outcome will be expanding the collaboration with Omega.
> The DOE Office of High Energy Physics’ comparative review of the Energy Frontier research program took place last week. The BNL energy frontier team led by Michael Begel and Marc-Andre Pleier did an outstanding job with the presentations and answering all questions during and after the presentations. The team received highly positive feedback at the closeout, which is a great recognition of the excellent achievements over the past seven years this review covered and the well thought through plans. I would like to congratulate the entire team, and all the presenters (Alessandro, Ketevi, Lisa, Marc-Andre, Michael, Torre, and Viviana).

_______________________________________________Dear all,
Last week on Thursday, NSF approved our 5yr proposal that we submitted in February. This is a huge milestone for our team. It was the considered effort of many on this developing team that made it happen. Congratulations and thanks to all of you who helped write and review the proposal and operation plan.
DOE is also on board with our long term planning, but they do not approve things for 5 years in the same way. We have a good FY23-24 plan with DOE and expect that to continue.
Sincerely,
Bob
