FYI, good news on DESC. David confirmed he wants to continue. I also discussed with Seth and Jim a growing number of existing and potential connection points with them, arising from their use of the parsl workload manager and the growing number of connections of our work to parsl (Rubin work, CSI, HEP-CCE, potentially DUNE work). This could potentially lead to continued collaboration past a year, via David and/or others. Nothing though is firm enough at this point to make concrete plans about whether the DESC work should be more closely connected to other work. I'll talk to David next week about the opportunities that may come with this extension, and the potential for broadening/extending the work.
I talked to Meifeng yesterday and she's very keen to see the parsl/funcX work go forward (as per the AI/ML proposal), perhaps via HEP-CCE funding if they activate complex workflows (e.g. an NPPS-resident 50/50 NPPS/CSI person). She's going to talk to Kirsten about our interest in collaborating on this (and will gently try to dissuade Kirsten from setting more HEP-CCE money on fire by giving it to inappropriate people).

Hi David,
I just talked to Seth Digel and Jim Chiang and they are interested to continue your involvement for another year beyond the current end date of end calendar 2022, at the same 50% level. Their interest in continuing is a credit to the work you've been doing for them, particularly as you've ramped up on perlmutter the last couple months, working on scalability and with Ben on parsl improvements. I hope you are interested to continue? If so they will be in touch on developing an extended program of work. I'd like to sit down with you next week, Wed-Thu 3pm or later would be best, to discuss. Well done!
