Cc: Oliver Gutsche <gutsche AT fnal.gov>Dear colleagues,We have been asked to outline the scope of, and strategic plan for, involvement by the US in software & computing efforts for the FCC over the next decade within the US FCC Physics, Experiment, and Detector (PED) Coordination Group. The group’s efforts will be aligned with initiatives currently taking place within the international FCC community and build on ongoing activities beyond. We are writing as coordinators of the Software and Computing (S&C) Panel. We want to gather a group of interested Software and Computing parties and request your input and contributions to formulate this plan. We want to evaluate needs for software and resources to support detector R&D and physics studies. We want to ask when development of a computing model for FCC needs to start. Our effort will build on recent US initiatives including Snowmass, community white papers, software institutes, etc, but this will be the first attempt to prioritize and estimate costs towards a resource-loaded 10 year plan.We will hold our first meeting for Software & Computing on Monday, March 13, 11AM EST /10 am CST/ 8 am PST/ 4pm CERN***, the meeting indico and zoom connection details are below. The goals of the meeting are to receive initial community input and hold an initial brainstorming towards developing a presentation of the community’s vision in the P5 town hall meeting (April 12-15, 2023).We created a dedicated email list us-fcc-software-computing AT cern.ch. Please subscribe by visiting https://e-groups.cern.ch/ and search for “us-fcc-software-computing”.Please feel free to forward this message to your colleagues.Best regards,Heather Gray (UC Berkeley/LBNL), Oliver Gutsche (FNAL).*** Note that this is a week when the US has begun daylight savings but Europe has not.---- Torre Wenaus, BNL NPPS Group, ATLAS Experiment-- BNL 510A 1-222 | 631-681-7892---- Torre Wenaus, BNL NPPS Group, ATLAS Experiment-- BNL 510A 1-222 | 631-681-7892
