Hi all,
For the past couple weeks I’ve been unable to talk to people about a new role I’m taking on because ePIC management wanted it kept secret. They promised us 24hr notice on the public announcement so we could begin discussing with people before, but they forgot.
The management of the EIC’s first (and only funded) detector, ePIC, have asked me to be one of three deputy computing coordinators (for infrastructure, which includes interfaces to TDAQ for streaming DAQ, leveraging multiple architectures, distributed computing). Infrastructure will ramp relatively slowly because they have what they need in the near term already in place, so as I’ve told my BNL management I think the position is compatible with my status in US ATLAS HL-LHC computing, where I am about a year into a 2 year final extension to help provide a smooth transition to new management. I expect the ePIC work in this FY to come from my NPPS group leader fraction, i.e. the ‘not US ATLAS’ part, and then we work out a US ATLAS adjustment for next FY. ePIC management is aware of my US ATLAS responsibilities and they also see the roles as compatible while they overlap.
Happy to discuss and hear your questions/concerns.
Torre
Hi,We were promised 24hrs notice before this public announcement but they forgot I guess. My role as deputy should be helpful to our ePIC/EIC efforts (that's why I took it at least :-)It will be a pleasure to work with the excellent coordination team the management has assembled.Torre---------- Forwarded message ---------

To: eic-projdet-collab-l AT lists.bnl.gov <eic-projdet-collab-l AT lists.bnl.gov>_______________________________________________Dear ePIC Collaborators:
We are very pleased to nominate two of the new coordination teams for ePIC:
Software and Computing Coordinator (SCC)
• Markus Diefenthaler (JLab, SCC)
• Wouter Deconinck (U. of Manitoba, Deputy SCC for Operations)
• Sylvester Joosten (ANL, Deputy SCC for Framework)
• Torre Wenaus (BNL, Deputy SCC for Infrastructure)
Analysis Co-Coordinators
• Rosi Reed (Lehigh Univ.)
• Salvatore Fazio (Univ. Calabria)
Of course, the Software and Computing Coordinator and Analysis Co-Coordinators, along with the management plan, will require confirmation by the Collaboration Council. A meeting of the Collaboration Council was just called by the CC Chair for Friday, March 24th. We are continuing to talk with candidates for the Technical Coordinator position and hope to make an announcement of the TC nomination to the collaboration soon, certainly prior to the CC meeting.
March will be a very busy month for ePIC! We have the two GD/I internal reviews for the barrel electromagnetic calorimetry and backwards PID, as well as software tutorials and preparation for the second simulation campaign underway along with all the steady progress being made in the Working Groups, all while we undergo a transition to a new collaboration structure. We greatly appreciate everyone’s hard work, dedication, and patience as we move ePIC forward!

John and Silvia
