As submitted:

Title: High-Efficiency Accelerated Computing for DUNE

Abstract: We propose the development of a high-efficiency heterogeneous computing system, specifically tailored for the simulation and reconstruction of the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE). The proposed research will develop a multi-layered acceleration framework including an efficient resource management infrastructure and acceleration solutions for specific algorithms. The R&D will explore a range of techniques, including multi-threading, GPU acceleration, distributed resource management, and AI/ML-based reconstruction algorithms. The objective is to significantly enhance DUNE's computing capacity, enabling it to accommodate more sophisticated yet superior-performing algorithms. The advancement will, in turn, bolster DUNE’s potential for physics discoveries. Capitalizing on BNL's key Wire-Cell software package, this R&D aims to expand our expertise in constructing an advanced, high-efficiency computing system and further reinforce BNL’s position in the DUNE Software and Computing program that is expected to start soon.
