Dear colleagues:
I am writing to let you know of a change regarding the EIC computing from the BNL side. As you know late last year, we announced the leadership change with our Scientific Data and Computing Center (SDCC), which became effective earlier this year with Alexei Klimentov serving as the Interim Director, while an international search is about to start.
When we made the leadership change last December, we decided not to make changes to the EIC computing related aspects but that we would revisit the arrangement soon. After a few months and more thought, we have decided to make some changes. Alexei Klimentov has agreed to serve as the interim co-director of the EIC Computing and Software Joint Institute (ECSJI) from the BNL side, effective immediately. We believe this change will make the EIC computing & software related resource management at BNL, communications within BNL, with the ePIC collaboration, and the project more effective and efficient. In the longer term, this role may transition to an experienced leader within SDCC.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Eric Lancon for his invaluable contribution to the development of the EIC computing in close collaboration with Amber Boehnlein (JLab) on behalf of the two host labs in the last a couple of years. This work has laid the important foundation for the future development of the EIC computing and software to support the ePIC and the EIC science goals. Eric has graciously offered to help with a smooth transition, for which I am very grateful.
I would like to thank you all in advance for your patience, understanding and support of this transition and look forward to our collective success in the years to come with the EIC enterprise!
Best, Haiyan
