I added to notes a point on Chris' CDB DB interface wish list... feel free to modify
  • With the DUNE(/AID2E) postdoc hire taking a long time, the transfer of CDB client responsibility off of Lino is taking a long time

  • is this an issue? Has sPHENIX been asking anything of Lino? Do we need to take it up in the Belle II team? A Belle II CDB review recommendation was that BNL take some responsibility for the client.

  • Chris answers no re: Lino, but sPHENIX does have a wish list for DB interface functionality. Very likely most/all of what’s on it will be relevant to Belle II and the general HSF ref implementation CDB community too. Chris will write down and share the wish list so we can address whether between NPPS, SDCC, Belle II we can address it.

I forgot to mention, in connection with the SCGSR student 1yr visit program, the UMass student and ACTS developer we've been talking to ATLAS about, proposing a 50/50 ATLAS/ePIC split. Neither the ATLAS nor ePIC halves can offer much at-BNL collaboration and mentoring, which is understandably giving him pause. So my final push was for going all-in 100% sPHENIX. Not credible in a 50/50 arrangement, but if ATLAS is out of the picture... this was my pitch...

In considering the ACTS opportunity I emphasized ePIC, rather than sPHENIX, because sPHENIX would be tossing Matt into the deep end, a brand new experiment in its first (and in the case of sPHENIX, only; 2025 is its last year unless extended) years of datataking. It's an intense atmosphere. But it's also an exciting rarity in our HEP/NP field with its very long accelerator/detector development timelines. Certainly for me, when I worked at the experiment on the 'alpha team' in the early years of L3 (LEP) running, it was tremendously exciting and rewarding, and set my career path.

Also part of the reason I didn't suggest sPHENIX is that it is not something realistic for 50% time. It will suck you in. So when we were considering 50/50 scenarios, it doesn't fit that. But it's a unique opportunity at 100%. And it has its ACTS element, their tracking is based on ACTS, Joe isn't here at BNL but loads of people are.

So, sPHENIX at 100% (or close to). An opportunity unique to BNL and a very fertile one in terms of elbow to elbow collaboration.
