Hi Hugo,

I have defined occupancy as the fraction of TPC bins in a layer that contain hits above threshold. 

You are correct that it is not a very well defined number, since "above threshold" may mean "slightly above threshold".

The relevant quantity is usually the channel occupancy. i.e. how many channels are above threshold. So within a layer check how many channels are hit devided by the total number of channels.
Within a time slice is not so usefull because the occupancy has a rather pronounced radial dependence.
