Minutes from April 24 meeting, also posted on Indico.
Cheuk-Ping Wong – Modular RICH Detector ----------------------------------------------------- Ping presented the R&D being done by GSU on modular RICH design for the EIC and how it could be incorporated into sPHENIX. Aerogel + Fresnel lens. Multianode PMT photosensor. Results from first test beam already submitted to NIM A. Has now implemented in sPHENIX simulation in forward region, covering pseudorapidity 1.1-1.9. Hadron PID for momenta ~3-10 GeV. Ready to do simulation studies.
Discussion about mentioning in LOI. Agreement that too costly to include in body of LOI but worth mentioning in appendix.
Joe Osborn – Forward sPHENIX Jets -------------------------------------------- Ran PYTHIA8 jets, triggering on R=0.3 truth jet in fsPHENIX acceptance with pT>4 GeV. R=0.5 simulations currently running on condor. For energy and pT resolution, finds similar constant term to John (15-16%). Eta in HCal simulation currently defined as center of (slanted) tower, likely causing strange shape of eta residual as function of jet energy.
Would be nice to see resolutions as function of both energy and pseudorapidity. Will make polished plots for LOI.
John Lajoie – fsPHENIX Simulation Updates ----------------------------------------------------- Several updates/fixes to the code in order to be able to do more with the simulations—thanks, John!
Nils Feege, Christine Aidala – Forward sPHENIX LOI Updates ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Volunteers for some of the physics sections still welcome: -Spin-momentum correlations in the nucleon (Sivers, Boer-Mulders, twist-3) -Nuclear PDFs -Gluon saturation
Discussion that Collins can’t really stand alone as improving our knowledge of hadronization, since an fsPHENIX measurement wouldn’t improve on existing constraints from e+e-. Probing twist-3 spin-momentum correlations in hadronization likely hard to make a crisp case for. Not clear either if gain on nuclear modification of fragmentation functions at forward rapidity compared to central, but may be able to make an argument along the lines of changing nu when looking at nuclear modification of FFs in e+A. Agreement to treat Collins as a tool to improve knowledge of transversity. Will consider whether hadronization section in the current outline should be removed.

On Behalf Of Nils Feege
Dear Cold QCD enthusiasts,
our next meeting will be
Monday, April 24, 8:30pm EDT (evening!).
The BlueJeans link is https://bluejeans.com/345777492 (no in-person meeting at BNL this time).
The agenda is evolving at https://indico.bnl.gov/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=3053. Cheuk-Ping Wong from GSU will give us the latest news about using a modular RICH in the forward direction. If someone else would like to present something, please let us know.
We are looking forward to hearing you at the meeting.
