Dear Cold QCD’ers:

Many of you may recall that at the time we were working on the sPHENIX Forward Instrumentation LOI (June 2017), Joe Osborn and I were communicating with the EPPS16 authors to provide projections for how a concerted program in p+A physics could constrain nuclear PDF’s.  In particular, the EPPS16 authors developed a way to handle a common normalization systematic between multiple measurements and provide improved constraints, especially on the gluon nPDF.  This work has just been submitted to the arXiv, and we plan to submit it for publication in PRD as well:

The paper describes improved (indirect) constraints on the gluon nPDF using forward DY, as at the time we didn’t think it was feasible to consider forward prompt photon measurements in fsPHENIX.  Sasha Basilevsky has shown that this may well be possible, and R&D is ongoing for a forward EMCal idea that may be able to provide such a measurement.  This will only strengthen the argument for a comprehensive nPDF program at RHIC.

Regards,
John
