Dear Collaborators

As forwarded, we are organizing a RBRC workshop on streaming readout for EIC, November 13 to 15 (end of the week following QM19). sPHENIX would be a leading NP experiment in the streaming readout implementation and I hopefully the sPHENIX DAQ also serve as a foundation for the DAQ for an EIC experiment. Therefore, we hope this workshop would be interesting to many of us and it will be great to show a strong sPHENIX presence in the workshop too.

We are writing to invite you to join the workshop. If there is topics you would like to bring up in this workshop, please let us know too.

Please note the registration deadline is Sept 30 via this website: https://www.bnl.gov/srv2019/ . Looking forward to seeing you at the workshop.

Cheers

Jin

also for Jan and Martin

Subject: [Eic_streaming_readout] Workshop V

Dear colleagues,

The next streaming readout workshop will be hosted by the Riken BNL Research Center November 13 to 15.

The format is different from earlier workshops, with more time for discussion/work. We have selected 7 topics (see below). For each, we will have 1 or 2 short talks as an introduction, with then ample time to discuss. We encourage and welcome all participants to prepare few slides for the topics they are interested in. They will be then shown during the discussion.

We also welcome anybody from the wider EIC community  -- bring your ideas, questions, problems, worries! It's meant to be a real *work*shop!

Please sign up ASAP at https://www.bnl.gov/srv2019/  and tell all interested parties!

It is also a requirement to get everybody through the GIS system at BNL.

The registration and GIS deadline is 9/30,  no exceptions possible! Please be aware that it will not be possible to give talks remotely.

We selected the following topics. The bullet points are not exhaustive!

1)  Data rate requirements / management

  - Strategy for rate control

  - Background rates / dark counts

  - Failure mode  -- what to do if estimate is wrong

2) Data format

   - Principles for high efficient computing

   - Storage organization

   - GPU/HPC requirements

3) Offline/online convergence

   - Detector design to maximize online analysis capability

   - What can be online, what must be offline

   - What should/must be online (also: Accelerator interface)

4) Detector support

    - TPC, GEMs, Silicon, Calorimeter

    - Do we have existing solution?

    - What needs to be developed?

5) Timing

    - required resolution, long term/short term

    - Distribution/Synchronization via IEEE 1588/white rabbit / other?

   - ToF v other, e.g. calorimeter

6) Differential Cost/complexity/capabilities.

    - Detector-by-detector comparison

7) Test setups / further development

  - What do we need to show?

  - What to we need to develop?

  - CD0 / CD1 timeline

With best regards in the name of all organizers,

Jan
