Minutes from today’s meeting:

Gamma-jet and dijet A_N projections – Desmond Shangase (Michigan)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Bigger bins in pseudorapidity for photon-jet, or remove edge bins—can’t reconstruct jets efficiently so close to edge of acceptance.

-A_N equation – change phi to phi_q, corresponding to variable in Zhongbo Kang et al.’s new paper https://arxiv.org/pdf/2008.05470.pdf

-Compare to plot on p. 22 of above paper, mentioning charge tagging as a possibility to develop a more sensitive measurement.

-Complementarity to STAR forward upgrade – different kinematic coverage

Annual Users’ Meeting sPHENIX Cold QCD talk – Desmond Shangase

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As part of introduction, can say sPHENIX designed for jets and photons in heavy ion physics, and that these probes are also valuable for cold QCD!

Introduce TMDs and in particular twist-3 before p. 7.

p. 7 – Add Nicole Lewis’s preliminary direct photon A_N from PHENIX for comparison.

p. 9 – Change hot QCD bullet to one that notes sPHENIX designed to measure photons and jets.

p. 11 – Add moderately forward charged hadron A_N projection plot from BUP.  Note that STAR’s planned measurement with forward upgrade will be farther forward, so complementary.

p. 13 – Can add PHENIX and/or STAR measurements to backup to indicate how sPHENIX will greatly extend pT coverage for all of these probes.

p. 15 – Compare to Joe Osborn’s published PHENIX results that showed transverse momentum broadening in p+A w.r.t. p+p.  Also mention that we’re in contact with theorists for calculations.

p. 18 – Make clearer that this paper is for constraining nPDFs _including_ sPHENIX.  Also check with John Lajoie level of Drell-Yan studies done for the barrel (rather than forward upgrade)—may need to remove DY bullet.

Add slide on other measurements being planned/considered, without plots.  Dihadron interference FF, Collins-in-jets.  Working on projections.

Point out that will be last polarized p+p and p+A data anticipated from RHIC!  In summary?

Dear Cold QCD enthusiasts,

In order for Desmond Shangase to present his projections for dijet and gamma-jet transverse single-spin asymmetries and go through his draft parallel talk for the Users’ Meeting, we’ll have a Topical Group meeting this coming Tuesday, October 20, at 8:00 am ET.
