Dear all,
as many of you have heard over the last several weeks, we had been asked to prepare another spin/coldQCD plan for DOE medium energy from all RHIC experiments involved in such physics.
Please find the latest version of the document attached and let us know if you have any urgent comments that need to be addressed. This document is in large part based on the white paper that we had prepared last year for the NSAC long range plan exercise and mostly differs in updates of newer measurements, etc. We had initially not included explicit sPHENIX projection plots as the situation with the expected luminosities was rather unclear and we felt too many differing numbers would be rather confusing. Upon requests by the current ALD (Hayan), we have just added those projections again and following conversations with Jamie, Dennis and others, we decided to stick with the initially projected luminosities of 62/6.2 pb-1 and 57% polarization to avoid the concerns mentioned above (even though these numbers are very unlikely to be achieved given the CAD projections and running time).
Tomorrow (EDT), we will then send it to Elke who will eventually send it to DOE. At this point this document is not meant to be publicly available and further comments can be addressed before that will eventually happen (if we decide to do so).
Please also note that in addition, there is also the separate workforce and milestone document for which Caroline had accumulated the information by all groups involved in spin/coldQCD activities at RHIC.
Regards,
Sasha Bazilevsky, Caroline Riedl, and Ralf Seidl
