Hi Chi,

Happy New Year!

As you are coming out to BNL Friday, I was wondering if we could carve
out an hour or so (best before the review) and discuss the prospect of
using the digitizer front-end in the context of Jin's LDRD. We are
looking for a streaming-grade digitizer for a test-bed to demonstrate
and generally play with a EIC-themed streaming readout. We would
eventually politely ask to use one of the earlier emcal prototypes to
get started.

We have been looking at a number of existing designs that could be made
to work with some effort. But in using your analog design, we would get
what has already been proven to do what we need, and we would cash in on
the work you and others have already done and which is already paid for.
That would need to get retrofitted with a high-bandwidth, standard fiber
digital back-end that can then feed into something like the FELIX card.

We would like to discuss this with the relevant people (Jin, you, me,
JohnK, Joe, ...), and see what is feasible and what isn't. I think of
this as the golden solution because the ADCs, connectors,
characteristics etc already work with our calorimeters, and we would get
a compliant playpen for the LDRD. And there would be synergy because we
have a head-start then for the next sPHENIX upgrade.

If you come in the morning, maybe we can find some time?

Thanks,

    Martin and Jin
