Hi,

Thanks to all those who attended the Urbana workfest last Thursday and
Friday! We had a very productive two days of meetings and lab tours. The
slides shown at the meeting are available at:

https://indico.bnl.gov/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=1262

The main topics of discussion were:

prototype for test beam next April at Fermilab.
—modules (1D projective) should be at BNL for testing purposes by the end of
October. The test will be of an 8x8 array. The plan is to have some of the
modules produced at THP and some produced in Urbana. The drawing for these
modules is available (Craig has it) and the fibers (long lead time) are on
order. In this context and the simulations there was discussion of the
effect of fiber-free absorber area on the overall performance. Sean had some
slides about BNL experience in producing modules and Vera and Eric discussed
the Urbana experience in the lab tour.

simulation:
—2D projective modules according to the mechanical design are now available
in Geant4. For simulation performance plots headed toward the pCDR, Jin will
coordinate the effort.

pCDR: outline of the EMCal section with names of primary contributors was
circulated to the list on 8/14 by John Haggerty. Comments should be sent to
the list as well as additional volunteers. The draft should be complete by
9/14. The final version is needed for the November cost and schedule review.

There was also discussion of SiPM issues, mechanical design, cooling and
calibration. Please see the detailed slides from Chris C., Sean and John.

In light of all these discussions, we will skip the EMCal meeting this week
and talk again in 2 weeks (8/31).

Best,
Anne
