All,
I spent most of my time today re-establishing the networks and assorted
setups so all works. We were able to take LED and pedestal data, so all
is connected. We have our local network go all the way downstream, to
the tent, to Mickey's area, and to where the rack with sphenixdaq is.
The hutch way upstream will come tomorrow.
In
https://www.phenix.bnl.gov/~purschke/ftbf/ftbf_setup.pdf
I maintain some kind of documentation; I'll change the file frequently
with new information. In the same directory you'll later find other things.
Our "beach head" machine ftbfbnl01.fnal.gov acts as the gateway into our
DAQ network in much the same way that our rssh.rhic.bnl.gov gateways
guard the entrance to BNL's networks. Unfortunately I spent more than 2
hours today on the phone with the FNAL helpdesk to get the machine to
allow me to log in remotely - we called it a day at 5:30 and will be at
it again tomorrow. One can log in from the console though.
Also, it is now possible to send files to BNL without going through the
complex procedure (using your laptop in internet-sharing mode) JohnH had
outlined; the ftbfbnl01 machine is now set up as a gateway to the
outside world. One caveat is that this is manually set up and will have
to be set up again after a reboot of the machine. FNAL is very picky
about their setups and the network settings come from a central place. I
have no ability to change local configuration files to make our desired
settings permanent. I will look into that some more.
Some other highlights - the webcam watching over the calorimeters is in
place and takes a snapshot every 30s. No one without access to our
machines gets to see them, they are just for us. Once on the network, it
is possible to get a live feed from the cam just like you can from the
cameras in 1008.
More news as they develop. The plan for tomorrow is the upstream hutch,
logins, the Elog, and (maybe not yet tomorrow) the automated procedure
to send files to BNL without human intervention.
Martin
