Kolja,

no sure I follow the logic completely, but I have seen a number of
missed spills in a row - not sure Id want the run ended automatcally in
that case. You can see this on the TV screen that show the spill when
the lines turn red instead of blue-ish.

You go to great length parsing the daq_status -l output. Read the
manual... rcdaq_client daq_status -s gives an output format easily
parseable by scripts (such as rcdaq_control.pl). It gives

runnumber eventnumber volume_in_mb open_flag current_filename
seconds_since_runstart

runnumber is -1 when stopped.
