Hi,
I’d like to submit the following poster abstract to Hard Probes.
sPHENIX EMCal Construction & Performance
Anne Sickles for the sPHENIX Collaboration
sPHENIX is a new collaboration to build a detector focused on the measurement of jets, photons and upsilons at RHIC in order to understand the temperature dependence of the Quark Gluon Plasma. sPHENIX will consist of electromagnetic and hadronic calorimetry as well is tracking over a wide acceptance. The electromagnetic calorimeter (EMCal) is a central component of the upsilon, jet and photon measurements. The design of the EMCal has a tungsten powder absorber with embedded scintillating fibers. The small Moliere radius of this calorimeter allow for it to operate in a heavy ion environment while maintaining a compact design. In this poster, we describe the design and construction of the electromagnetic calorimeter as well as results from prototype tests in beam at Fermilab in the spring of 2016 as well as future plans.
Best,
Anne
