Hi Huan,
We discussed this at our EMCAL meeting this morning and Glenn thought it would be sufficient if once we are all agreed that the Fudan blocks pass all the same QA requirements as the UIUC blocks, then we can informally "sign off" on them with a simple memo or even an E-mail (we should, however, have some documentation that we have done so). I think we are almost at that point, but we just received the first set of Fudan blocks from UIUC and we still need to inspect them and make sure they actually fit together into the sector. This will hopefully be done over the next week or two.

There was also the question of when Fudan can start doing the scintillation light output measurement which we would like to see done before proceeding with all the blocks. Finally, there was the question of how the CIAE/PKU QA tests would be done. Weihu said the plan was to for CIAE/PKU to do their own QA, which is fine, but this should be crossed checked before signing off on it. It seemed best to have this cross check done at Fudan, since we now assume that this is equivalent to testing them at UIUC. I think once all this is done we should be able to sign off on the production of blocks at both sites.

Best regards,
Craig

Hi John/Glenn/Craig/Anne,

We had a meeting with CIAE/PKU this week. CIAE/PKU are working on the preparation for block production. We estimate that they will be ready for production in early Jan. Our plan is for Fudan to produce 2/3 and CIAE/PKU to produce 1/3 of the Chinese blocks.

Previously I mentioned that we would like to have a production review of the Chinese effort by the EMCal project. If we plan to review Fudan and CIAE/PKU production at the same time, we may need to postpone the review to the end of Jan. The Chinese new year will be Feb 12 and we need to avoid the winter break then.

From Fudan’s side, we still plan to ship 100 blocks to BNL in early Nov. Weihu will report on the status.

Please let us know your advice on the review. Either a separate review or a combined Fudan/CIAE/PKU review will be fine with us.

  Regards,

  Huan

Dear All,
Just a reminder that we will have a regular EMCAL meeting tomorrow 10/30 starting at 10:30 am EDT. The Indico link is the usual: https://indico.bnl.gov/event/9954/

Please note that the Indico page says this is a Local BNL EMCAL meeting but this will actually be a "regular" EMCAL meeting were we hear reports from UIUC, BNL and Fudan. Something seems to have gotten out of phase with the naming of these meetings on Indico and looking ahead we will have another regular EMCAL meeting next week on 11/6. After that we get back in sync again with regular Bi-Weekly EMCAL  meetings starting on 11/6 and then alternating with Local BNL EMCAL every other week starting on 11/13. This division is really arbitrary and everyone is welcome to attend all the meetings (after all, they are EMCAL meetings so where else would you rather be...?), but so as not to burden our UIUC and Fudan colleagues with more meetings, we won't normally hear reports from UIUC and Fudan at the local meeting. This also gives us more time to focus on BNL related issues during these meetings.

However, for the next two meetings (10/30 and 11/6) we will consider these regular EMCAL meetings and hear reports from UIUC and Fudan at both. Since we have a lot going on in all three locations I think it will be good to hear from everyone for the next two weeks.

Cheers,
Craig
