HI all,

As usual thanks for the minutes Anne.

Shyam and I have posted an additional updated version of his presentation to include some clarifications requested at the mtg (like some intro slides from the previous presentaiton from Aug 9, Anthony suggested) and e.g. the mass distributions and fits which were also requested by Anne, etc... more extreme pseudorapidity bin ( eta = ~1.0) ....a sample of which is shown  below.    Much like in many cases we have shown in the past, the S/B is good and there is not much surprising going on in the fits, they are good enough for now- without too much pseudorapidity dependence.  (this pt cut is  actually quite similar to the S/B used by phenix for this)--this is the lowest pt cut, worst  S/B case from today.  More is in the updated version of the presentation (in the backup section at the end.) on the indico agenda from today...

Hi all,

The minutes to today’s meeting are below and on indico.  Please let me know of any comments/corrections.

Best,
Anne

  • HCal cabling
  • Inner HCal cabling can only start after December 1
  • Outer HCal cabling can start when permission to work on the lower platform happens (which could happen next week)
  • Student manpower would be useful as sort of “apprentice-tech” work (Eric M.’s term)
are the HCal cables custom
  • Test pulse and signal cables are all the same length
  • Power and slow control cables are custom lengths depending on the sector
work has to be tightly coordinated with other work in 1008 HCal sampling fraction change by a factor of two (discussed in Simulation meeting and GM on 9/2, Chris’ slide 3)
  • Chris points out that this a big deal.
  • Maraud & Xioachun are doing to double check the materials in this new version
  • Bill asks if the same materials are used in the Geant
  • The scintillator materials have been updated
Chris also expects the Birk’s constant to play at role.  He doesn’t know if it is being applied in the new simulations. After this is done, the simulations which are compared to the cosmic data should be rerun (in progress according to Blair) software:
  • Updates to pi0 calibration & inner HCal calibration code expected today from Justin
  • He will provide an update in the Simulations Meeting
  • There are calibrations created based on this code, but Justin says there is no automated system for iterating through this calibration.
  • Chris points out that we don’t want to have the 3-week scale calibration issues that we had in sPHENIX.  That would hurt our ability to do online production.
Shyam on optimal pi0 photon cuts:
  • This is an update to the presentation on August 9, 2022
  • Trying to find the best minimum photon energy cut
  • Cut here is 0.6 GeV for both photons and scan the pt (not energy) of the leading photon
  • Eta = 75 is something like the 75th bin from the left
  • slide 3: these plots are of the pi0 signal and background yields in peripheral hijing MDC2 about 40-100%
  • Slide 4: x-axis is the leading photon pt
  • This is from the previous presentation
slide 7:
  • This is mapping the entire calorimeter into the same 16x16 grid.
  • I think it’s like cutting the unrolled calorimeter into a checkerboard and then stacking the individual squares on top of each other.
Using 40k MDC2 files which is about 20M events This has the 0.9 GeV energy cutQuestion from Tim about how many pi0s in each bin.
  • Something like 1000s.
The eta/phi is of the leading photon central tower. would be nice to see the signal/background as a function of rapiditySuggest embedding pi0s into these HIJING events.

Hi all,

We will hold our Calo Calibrations meeting tomorrow at 11am.   Please let me know if you would like to make a presentation.

As most people know, we have been asked by Chris to coordinate understanding of , and also accounting for--with a new sim calib,  the new apparent sampling fraction change in the simulations now with the updated Hcal geometries/materials.   Even if not a lot of progress has been made on this yet I would like us to discuss a game plan on this tomorrow.

Additionally at least Shyam will make an update on the pi0 method, and probably at least I will have some things to say about other aspects of our group's work and code developement.
