There have been a number of issues with data from the first rack, 1E3, as we got it going on Monday. A jseb2 fiber was out of place yesterday but after about noon today the 8 fibers we had plugged in on Monday seemed to start and stop runs up to ~1 kHz without major problems, although there seem to be 2 missing ADC's in the first few events quite often, in random packets. We can live with that for a while. I think there is a hang with forced accepts much above a kHz, but that will also take some more testing.

After starting and stopping a dozen runs, I pushed in the second DCM in the dcmgroup, which tests the token passing. The DCM looked like it was initializing from the pattern of the busy lights flashing during initialization, but I never got data from any of the packets in the added DCM (data from the first DCM seemed ok, though). We used to have a token passing test, but I'm not sure it's still workable; we haven't needed to run with 2 DCM/PM for a long time.

I thought we might have some confusion with fibers from the ADC's through the patch panel, but it looks ok to me. I attached a sketch of how I found the fibers at the ADC, DCM, and JSEB.

Dear all,

John, Dan and I set up the readout of the EmCal rack 1E3 today. Among
the bigger news and changes are the fact that we run from the actual
seb00.sphenix.bnl.gov machine in its final (minus the inevitable
tweaks) configuration - a first!

With that comes the ability to write the data directly to the
bufferboxes, and from there we can just "cp" to the RCF/SDCC.

In the phnxrc account we set up a new "operations" directory

[phnxrc@seb00 ~]$ ls -l operations/
total 5
drwxr-xr-x 2 phnxrc sphenix3 6 Mar 27 19:00 emcal
drwxr-xr-x 2 phnxrc sphenix3 8 Mar 27 18:06 HCal

and an ad-hoc "standard" where (for now) ${HOSTNAME}_setup.sh points
to the right setup script for a given machine -

[phnxrc@seb00 emcal]$ ls -l
total 7
-rw-r--r-- 1 phnxrc sphenix3 1433 Mar 27 18:30 libconfuse_emcal_1E3.txt
-rw-r--r-- 1 phnxrc sphenix3 2074 Mar 27 19:00 rcdaq_setup_emcal_1E3.sh
lrwxrwxrwx 1 phnxrc sphenix3 24 Mar 27 19:43 seb00_setup.sh -> rcdaq_setup_emcal_1E3.sh

The filerules have been adjusted to go to the bufferboxes' "commissioning" area:

-- defined Run Types:
cosmics - /bbox/commissioning/emcal/cosmics/cosmics-%08d-%04d.prdf
junk - /bbox/commissioning/emcal/junk/junk-%08d-%04d.prdf
led - /bbox/commissioning/emcal/led/led-%08d-%04d.prdf
led_tower - /bbox/commissioning/emcal/led_tower_by_tower_hcal/led_tower.prdf
pedestal - /bbox/commissioning/emcal/pedestal/pedestal-%08d-%04d.prdf
pulser - /bbox/commissioning/emcal/pulser/pulser-%08d-%04d.prdf

After some flailing, and after all was working alright, we took two
good runs tonight to look at,

[phnxrc@seb00 emcal]$ ls -l /bbox/commissioning/emcal/junk/
total 1095484
-rwxr--r-- 1 phnxrc sphenix3 78118912 Mar 27 19:40 junk-00004286-0000.prdf
-rwxr--r-- 1 phnxrc sphenix3 1043652608 Mar 27 19:42 junk-00004287-0000.prdf

with slow, 1Hz forced-accepts in 4286 and then faster, like 500Hz,
triggers in 4287.

After Dan had found one not-properly connected fiber, all packets check in ok:

[phnxrc@seb00 emcal]$ dlist -e 3 /bbox/commissioning/emcal/junk/junk-00004287-0000.prdf
Packet 6009 5981 0 (Unformatted) 93 (IDDIGITIZER_31S)
Packet 6010 5981 0 (Unformatted) 93 (IDDIGITIZER_31S)
Packet 6011 5981 0 (Unformatted) 93 (IDDIGITIZER_31S)
Packet 6012 5981 0 (Unformatted) 93 (IDDIGITIZER_31S)
Packet 6013 5981 0 (Unformatted) 93 (IDDIGITIZER_31S)
Packet 6014 5981 0 (Unformatted) 93 (IDDIGITIZER_31S)
Packet 6015 5981 0 (Unformatted) 93 (IDDIGITIZER_31S)
Packet 6016 5981 0 (Unformatted) 93 (IDDIGITIZER_31S)

and they look like proper pedestal events.

Just to exercise this, I transferred the data to the SDCC file system,
where they appear under /sphenix/lustre01/sphnxpro/commissioning/ :

purschke@rcas2067 ~ $ ls -l /sphenix/lustre01/sphnxpro/commissioning/emcal/junk/
total 1095488
-rwxr--r-- 1 sphnxpro sphenix 78118912 Mar 27 19:40 junk-00004286-0000.prdf
-rwxr--r-- 1 sphnxpro sphenix 1043652608 Mar 27 19:42 junk-00004287-0000.prdf

(this is exactly what we'll be doing with the real data once we run
with beam.) So, a good day's work.

Just so that our HCal friends who are subscribed to this list don't
feel left out - we are also able to read out the HCal (both E+W
simultaneously) with the respective SEB machines. More about that in a
separate mail later or tomorrow morning.

Best,

Martin + John + Dan.
